Budweiser’s “Dilly dilly” ad became a viral meme, and their agency says traditional TV is responsible. Late last year, the Budweiser ad started to go viral with sports fans spinning the phrase into tweets and memes during games. One agency exec explained the frequency they played the ad on TV during “big ticket” live events played an important role: “If we tried to take this thing immediately into social media, I don’t know if it would have taken off.” Thanks to the success, expect to see a lot more of the “dilly dilly” world—including a Super Bowl ad.
