Video game addiction is about to be recognized as “an official mental health condition” by the World Health Organization.

Dec 29 2017

Video game addiction is about to be recognized as “an official mental health condition” by the World Health Organization. “Gaming Disorder” will be added to 2018’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and will be “characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior.” Esports’ growing popularity may be casting a kind light on excessive gaming, but this diagnosis shows how serious gaming addiction can be—though it will be reserved for “significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.” (Mashable)
