Cable companies want Millennials to stop sharing their streaming passwords—and they’re taking actions.

Dec 21 2017

Cable companies want Millennials to stop sharing their streaming passwords—and they’re taking actions. Parks Associates reports that around one-third of internet users log in to cable TV using a password from someone they don’t live with, which will cost cable companies an estimated $9.9 billion by 2021. Pay-TV isn’t taking this lightly, calling sharing passwords an act of “piracy”—and of course, young viewers using their parents’ passwords are huge culprits. Viacom Inc. is reportedly considering limiting the number of simultaneous logins allowed and asking subscribers to enter their credentials more often. (Time, Mashable)
