Millennials don’t want to work for airlines. One Southwest exec sums it up: “The biggest problem [is] a general lack of interest in folks pursuing this as a career anymore.” But there are plenty of reasons behind that lack of interest. As airfares get cheaper, airline jobs are losing their “glamour,” and airline losses post 9/11 coupled with rising costs of training mean “wage erosion” for pilots, flight attendants, and more. Unsurprisingly, Millennial pilots and other airline employees are hard to find when they’re offered low wages. (Slate)
