Millennials aren’t living with their parents forever, but many do want to move within walking distance. Forty percent of Millennials ranked living a walkable distance from their parents and in-laws as “extremely or very important,” according to the PulteGroup Home Index. While many Millennials are drawn to big cities, they’re finding themselves moving back to “the suburban paradise[s]” of their childhoods instead for “emotional and financial security.” On top of more affordable real estate, the proximity to parents can help cut childcare costs and act as “a safety net” if they get laid off.
