Platforms like YouTube and Musical.ly have “democratized access to a previously insular industry,” and long gone are the days of flipping through binders and making calls to recruit “who was around, who was in town, and who had representation.” To get on Hollywood’s radar today, personal branding often outstrips traditional acting chops, and one casting exec wrote that “a large social following acts as proof of concept.” A lot less Juilliard, a lot more YouTube.
