Millennials prefer McModerns to McMansions. McMansions have been widely criticized as “large, cheaply constructed, and architecturally sloppy”—even causing one lawsuit over a blogdedicated to hating them. The newer McModerns are more minimalist in style, reportedly loved by “young, tech-focused, highly-educated [M]illennials,” and are built by companies following pattern books rather than individual architects. But like McMansions, they’re typically made from cheap materials, and though they try to exude affluence and culture, critics call them “indulgent, inefficient, and architecturally botched.” (Curbed, Business Insider)
