Some Facebook users are gaming the system, uploading static images as videos to rack up views and fill more feeds. Most are memes, showing a static joke picture in the form of a 35-40 second video—and they’re generating millions of views and hundreds of thousands of shares. The Facebook algorithm doesn’t exactly favor video, but because users are more likely to engage with video, it ends up getting prime scrolling real estate. Facebook is actively working to make sure no one is tricking their algorithms, but, for now, “videos that aren't really videos” are flying under their radar. (BuzzFeed)
