“Old-timey” jobs are seeing a resurgence in popularity, as more college grads become bartenders, butchers—even fishmongers. The number of bartenders is estimated to grow 10%, and butchers 5%, in the U.S. between 2014 and 2024 and young, educated, 20-somethings taking the niche jobs are creating a blue collar elite. The author of the book Masters of Craft: Old Jobs in the New Urban Economy believes that Millennials are drawn to these jobs—which often have an element of performance to them—because of “the ephemerality of the digital age.” (WSJ)
