Hotels need to look beyond lobbies to lure in young travelers. Hilton’s new Canopy brand put in a lot of research before launching its first hotel in Reykjavik in 2016, finding that many hotels were putting the focus on hip communal spaces, and not enough focus on rooms. According to the brand: “The top three drivers for guest satisfaction are room, check-in, and greeting on arrival…Then for Millennials you would add on free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and in-room fridges.” They continually monitor feedback through surveys and social media, incorporating requested room changes like brighter lights in the bathroom.
