Amazon is killing retail jobs—right? Maybe not. While some claim that Amazon’s “ability to crush smaller rivals” prevents new job growth, there may be another side to the story. In 2016, e-commerce only accounted for 8.3% of the total retail market, and on Amazon almost half of retail sales are actually from third-party merchants, meaning the platform is providing them the opportunity to “compete in the global marketplace,” and pass along benefits to workers they employ.
