Dating app Hinge has ditched swiping to solve “the dating apocalypse.” After their data revealed that 81% of users didn’t find a serious relationship through the app, the company realized swiping was intended more for “fun or hookups.” The new version of their platform is now more like Instagram—with profiles that can be built with content over time—and less like Tinder. They hope that the $7 monthly fee and eliminating the “mutual match protocol” so users are fully open to interact with each other, will draw in more serious daters and start more worthwhile relationships.
