YouTube is standing up to increasing competition by becoming more of a social network. The platform is launching YouTube Community—a tab similar to a wall where video creators can “create posts in text, GIFs, images and more, while viewers can engage with these posts by commenting, upvoting and downvoting.” The new feature is an effort to keep their audience from straying to rival social apps when they want to further engage with their favorite YouTubers, and to “protect their turf” as social platforms like Facebook and Snapchat focus in on video.
