While one university is saying no to “safe spaces,” others are using freshman orientations to train students on “microaggressions” and “trigger warnings.” In an effort to avoid “highly publicized episodes” that can lead to a decline in enrollment, many campuses are now offering trainings on sexual consent and sensitivity, hiring diversity officers to ease racial tensions in preparation for the coming year. Ypulse’s PC Police trend found that 73% of 13-17-year-olds think schools should be “safe spaces” where students don't hear anything that offends or upsets them. (The New York Times)
