How does a 24-year-old create a media brand that has generated 17 million Facebook fans? By giving Millennials exactly what they want. Liam Harrington, CEO of Unilad, has built his empire from short, viral, and sometimes funny clips, that can be “a respite from the fearful headlines of the current news cycle.” Utilizing his Millennial staff and “a young army [of filmmakers] with mobile phones,” Harrington is targeting 18-35-year-olds by “creating the content that they want to see.” And it’s working: in July, video views skyrocketed to 2.7 billion, up one billion from the month before, which according to one ranking means that they have surpassed BuzzFeed Tasty’s numbers.
