Disney wants a piece of the Pokémon Go action. An insider reports that the first round of the brand’s wearable Playmation toys, based on Marvel superheroes and released last October, generated lower than expected sales. In response, the brand has halted plans to release Star Wars Playmation toys, changing gears to instead focus on the augmented reality behind Pokémon Go’s success. The company still believes strongly in “the blending of physical and digital to create new kinds of connected play experiences,” (the new play) and AR will likely be central to their next effort.
