Pokémon Go is not only the biggest mobile game ever, but a “blessing in disguise” for businesses. Players seeking out Pokémon Gyms and PokéStops (training spots for Pokémon and places to find items useful in the game) have found themselves in malls and retail stores that could use the extra foot traffic—like Macy’s and Forever 21. Although some store are reacting with signs announcing that Pokémon are for paying customers only, for struggling department stores “simply getting consumers through the door is a great start.” Meanwhile, some restaurants are paying $10 for daily “lure modules,” that “lays bait for Pokémon” to attract players and hopefully boost sales.
