Fans of Doc McStuffins are rallying together to demand renewal for the only cartoon on Disney starring a black female. The show has not yet been renewed for an additional season, causing parents of its young viewers to worry. Comedian W. Kamau Bell, who once called the show’s main character “the Olivia Pope of children’s television,” has started the hashtag #RenewDocMcStuffins on Twitter to assemble fans and get the network’s attention. The hashtag has since taken off, with users sharing testimony tweets describing children’s’ love for the series and the importance of representing young black girls—as well as girls working in science and tech—in the media.
