In the race to win over Millennials, Dollar General is gaining ground on Walmart and Target. Last quarter’s comparable sales for Dollar General increased 2.2% compared to Walmart’s 1% and Target’s 1.2%. The discount chain reports that young adult consumers make up 24% of their sales, and Millennials account for 12%, spending about twice as much as the average Dollar General customer. The retailer hit their stride offering inexpensive products during the recession, and continued making improvements, including expanding their grocery sections.
