A new campaign is using deadpan humor and sarcasm to get young girls to code.

May 20 2016

A new campaign is using deadpan humor and sarcasm to get young girls to code. Despite recent strides, female coders still face “unspoken stigmas,” and a Girls Who Code campaign pokes fun at the ridiculousness of the stereotypes. Young girls featured in the ads explain how their boobs, periods, long beautiful hair, and mood swings keep them from being able to code. According to the organization’s CEO: “We feel that in addition to teaching girls to code, we need to change culture…This campaign is a little bit more about provoking a response and reaffirming what girls already know and that is that this is really ridiculous that people think that just because you're a girl you can't do something.” (Adweek)
