About 95% of kids under ten don’t have a phone, and one startup sees them as an untapped market. Toymail is developing Wi-Fi enabled, screen-less toys that allow parents to send one-on-one audio messages to their children via a smartphone app. The plush playthings are meant to keep parents assured they are connected, without exposing children to standard phones. Since crowdsourcing $800,000 on Kickstarter, Toymail has received funding from Amazon and Verizon, and has sold 20,000 toys so far. (TechCrunch)
