Medium, a rising platform for publishers, is updating to personalize content for its readers. The app’s update will restructure the home screen to feature 'Collections'—a curated list of articles based on the user’s interests, and timely events like the Oscars. Unlike Facebook’s News Feed or Twitter’s Best Tweets feature, the list will not be based on an algorithm but chosen by “a handful of trusted testers.” According to the platform: “There’s a unique sensibility that individual curators bring, whether that’s a specific tone, voice, or simply good taste.” Eventually Medium hopes its users will create their own collections that can be shared throughout the community.
