They’re facing the daunting task of creating safe spaces to promote healthy discussion, encourage users to keep visiting, and retain their advertisers. One software engineer who moderates comment platforms says it is all about making people “think about it” before they post. She has created a method where commenters must rate two other comments on “quality of argument and civility” before posting their own so they’ll realize they aren’t “shouting into a void,” and their comments will be judged as well. (The Guardian
