Finding a balance between letting children and teens reap the benefits of the internet while supervising their exploration is a modern-day parenting issue. A recent Pew study found that when it comes to digital monitoring, parents are embracing a hands-on approach: 61% have checked up on their teen’s website visits, and 56% have friended or are following their teen’s Facebook, Twitter, or other social media profiles. Using technology-based tools is less common, with only 39% reporting they use parental controls for blocking, filtering, or monitoring. (Pew Research Center)
