Participation trophies have gotten a lot of flack as Millennials have grown up, blamed for their “entitled” attitudes and more. But could it be that a “gold star for showing up” is actually a good thing? One author argues that building up kids’ spirit and self-appreciation is something that should be encouraged, and points out that “kids aren’t as stupid as you’re worried they are”—in other words, they know the difference between winning and participating.
