Millennials aren’t just affecting the workplace, marketing, and entertainment, they are “the first generation to truly live by its own set of consumer and business rules” and are changing the way that products are developed. Millennials founded many of today’s most disruptive brands, and they’re making local production, environmental concerns, and social responsibility a core part of their foundation. Tech startups like Mino and Revolve Robotics are manufacturing domestically, and this “Millennial approach” could spread to other industries. Already some major brands are following suit: Tesla builds locally-produced cars in a Bay Area facility that is a fraction the size of a typical Detroit factory, and Nike’s Flyknit process builds shoes on a single machine, making small hyper-local factories a new possibility.
