Urban Outfitters has been racking up the PR mishaps over the past year, and they can now add displaying “irresponsible and harmful” photos to the list. The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) forced the company to remove a photo of a model with an extreme “thigh gap” from its website, saying that a noticeably underweight model negatively influences women to aspire to unrealistic expectations. A growing number of outspoken young women are owning their imperfections rather than Photoshopping them away, and they want brands to follow on their crusade towards promoting positive body image—clearly this movement is continuing into 2015.
