High school cliques are a deeply embedded part of both entertainment and our concept of teens, but in truth some schools are more likely to form cliques than others. Segregating into friend clusters is a “natural instinct,” but the size, design, level of diversity, and the way students are treated can encourage or discourage the behavior. For example, despite greater diversity, larger high schools are more likely to have cliques because “students are more anxious about finding meaningful relationships.” (The Atlantic)
