Snapchat, Instagram, and the like are more often than not considered a distraction for students—but is there ever a place for social media in the classroom? In this mini-debate, one teacher argues that teaching about social platform use in schools helps media-literacy, gives quiet students a voice, and offers great learning opportunities. The opposite view is that school is one of the few safe havens where kids can unplug, and that the benefits of using social media in classrooms aren’t clear. A consensus isn’t likely to be reached anytime soon. (PBS)
