If you’re wondering just how far our collective obsession with, and reliance on, social media has gone, look no further: when Facebook suffered an outage on Friday some users actually called 911. Several police stations took to Twitter to ask people to stop making emergency calls to report the network’s blackout. Though we highly doubt that it was just young consumers making the calls, the incident speaks to just how much social media has become an “essential” in a short amount of time. (Jezebel)
