Hollywood isn’t having a great summer, and the film industry’s focus on young male moviegoers may be to blame. Frequent moviegoers ages 12-17 fell 15% 2013, and those 18-25 fell 17%. At the same time, “male-skewing summer tentpoles” aren’t attracting as many female viewers as they used to. Women are a more influential audience, being credited for many of the year’s biggest box-office success stories, including Frozen and Maleficent. (Hollywood Reporter)
