Video games are becoming a spectator sport. Anyone familiar with twitch.tv knows that online viewing of competitive gaming has been rising in popularity for years—now the trend is moving offline. Last year, 18,000 people attended the live finals of the League of Legends Season 3 World Championship at the sold-out Staples Center. 32 million people watched the championship in total, more than those who tuned in for the MLB World Series or the NBA Finals.
