Ever heard of #vamping? That’s one of the hashtags being used by teens who are staying up all night using Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram and more. The New York Times contends that social media is depriving kids of much-needed sleep. But while it might have a newfangled cool hashtag, staying up all night is hardly new teen behavior. Young people have always wanted to be connected to their friends at all hours; 40 years ago that meant hiding in a closet with a landline, and today it means sneaking a smartphone under the covers.
