Parents are looking forward to sending their kids back to school in-person—but inflation is making BTS shopping difficult. This year, more parents are stressed about back-to-school-shopping as inflation rises higher than it has in decades. According to a Deloitte survey, 57% of K-12 parents are worried about inflation impacting BTS prices, and 37% expect to spend more this year than last year. Still, they estimate parents will spend an average of more than $600 on each of their K-12 children. But, despite high prices, parents are still expecting major stockouts. The majority of parents (77%) say they will trade brands if this is the case, but to avoid it, nearly half plan to purchase pre-made “kits” of all their needed supplies. YPulse data shows that 69% of parents say they have a strict budget for BTS shopping this year, and 73% are going to reuse as much as they can from last year before buying new items. (Deloitte)
