Athlete Women Empowered is a mentorship program helping young BIPOC female athletes overcome barriers and prepare for life after sports.

Athlete Women Empowered is a mentorship program helping young BIPOC female athletes overcome barriers and prepare for life after sports. YPulse’s sports and athletics research found that one in five BIPOC young consumers participate in sports through school—and a new mentorship program is aiming to help young female athletes in that demographic. This month, Canada-based Athlete Tech Group announced they would be launching a mentorship program that uses “groundbreaking technology” to address barriers faced by young BIPOC female athletes and prepare them for the future by creating opportunities in emerging industries. The “first-of-its-kind” program, which is supported by the country’s Anti-Racism Action Program, pairs 15-18-year-old BIPOC females with like-minded mentors, athletes, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders. More than 30 mentors have signed on to support the program including professionals from Seattle Storm, Lululemon, the New York Knicks, Nike, Deloitte, Adidas, the Sacramento Kings, EY, Canadian Tire, Sick Kids Hospital, and more. According to Olympian and AWE mentor Miranda Ayim, it is “imperative that the next generations of female athletes have the skills and support to navigate the elite sport landscape and beyond.” (Business Wire)
