Some European countries are starting to consider treating COVID-19 like the flu. Spain’s prime minister became the first European leader to argue that it may be time for the EU to downgrade the treatment of COVID-19 from a pandemic to an endemic, or an ongoing disease with predictable rates of spreading, doing away with the likes of quarantines and case counts. The U.K.’s health minister echoed this thinking, indicating another step towards COVID-19 becoming more normalized in 2022. In YPulse’s The In-Between trend research, which explores the state of COVID-19-created limbo Gen Z and Millennials have found themselves in, the majority of young consumers agree that this is our new normal. And while some are still refraining from pre-COVID-19 activities, many are moving forward with their lives and accepting the fact that Coronavirus may always be something they have to deal with.
