Mushrooms, 1980s-inspired drinks, and nostalgic childhood foods are among the top food trends for 2022.

Mushrooms, 1980s-inspired drinks, and nostalgic childhood foods are among the top food trends for 2022. YPulse told you what food and drink trends experts are predicting will take off in 2022, and we’re adding some more to the list. The “ingredient of the year” is mushrooms in every form, from psilocybin mushrooms to king oyster mushrooms, and more; hibiscus will pop up more in drinks and desserts as “flavor of the year”; 1980s-inspired drinks like a Blue Lagoon, Tequila Sunrise, Long Island iced tea, and amaretto sours will be revamped with “fresh juices, less sugar, and better spirits”; candy that reminds consumers of their childhood is expected to boom as they get creative with desserts and drinks; and although not new, plant-based chicken will also be popular at the dinner table. We’ll also be seeing more tableware that doubles as a sweet treat (think edible spoons, chopsticks, and cups) and “swicy” and “swalty” food pairings (the marriage of spicy, salty, and sweet foods).
