Amazon, Netflix, and Disney+ have agreed to spend 20% of their yearly revenues in France on local series, films, and programs. YPulse’s Borderless Culture trend research explores young consumers’ growing interest in content focused on other cultures and countries—a trend that’s only growing in popularity. Now, international series are some of streaming platforms’ biggest hits (ehem, Squid Game), and French-language shows are winning over viewers across the world. Amid concerns that France wouldn’t benefit from this Francophile boom, the country’s audiovisual council has made it compulsory for SVODs to spend a significant portion of their revenue in the region on local programing. Netflix’s contribution alone will be €200 million a year, meaning young consumers can expect even more French streaming on their favorite platform in the coming years. (Forbes)
