McDonald’s opened its first-ever net-zero emissions branch in the U.K. YPulse research shows climate change is a high priority for young consumers, and in the U.S., climate anxiety is impacting the purchases they make and the brands they support. In an effort to respond to these concerns, McDonald’s has committed to slashing carbon emissions and becoming entirely carbon neutral across the world by 2050—and by 2040 in the U.K. and Ireland. Its new location, which will act as a blueprint for future franchises, has built sustainability into its core—literally. The restaurant is largely composed of recycled materials, and the walls are insulated using British sheep’s wool. In its day-to-day operations, the shop is powered by two wind turbines and 92 square-meters of solar panels. Plus, there’s a biodiversity garden and nature trail on-site. (The Independent)
