Logitech and “Billboard” are launching a new music chart to monitor online creators’ impact on the music industry.

Aug 20 2021

Logitech and Billboard are launching a new music chart to monitor online creators’ impact on the music industry. The Song Breaker Chart is a new monthly chart that will rank digital creators who are driving music consumption through their content creation (think viral memes, dance challenges, etc.). The move is inspired by Logitech’s Song Breaker Awards, which streamed on TikTok prior to the 63rd annual Grammy Awards this year and honored creators including 24kGoldn, Surf Mesa, and dance creators Keara Wilson, Jalaiah Harmon, and Haley Sharpe. Meredith Rojas, global head of entertainment and creator marketing at Logitech For Creators, notes how the Song Breaker Chart is a big step for representation and recognition in the industry: “There is a big issue with credit not being given where it’s due right now on TikTok and IG…There is undeniable data pointing to the trends, challenges, and community driven [user-generated content] on TikTok and its impact on a song’s success.” Lizzo, Jason Derulo, and Vanessa Clark are among the 20 creators who will appear on the August Song Breaker Chart for “Into the Thick of It” by The Backyardigans, “Jalebi Baby” by Tesher (Derulo’s remix catapulted the song on Billboard’s charts), and Clark’s popular glitching trend set to “Get Ur Freak on” by Miss Elliott and “Kurxxed Emeraldz” by Luci4.
