Otter is an app that pays stay at home parents to care for other peoples’ kids. The pandemic pushed many Millennial parents—especially moms—into staying at home as jobs were lost, childcare shut down, or remote school needed to be managed, and according to National Women’s Law Center over 2 million women left their jobs to take on childcare roles. Otter, started by a Millennial mom, has created a system that allows these stay-at-home caregivers to be paid for their work, by connecting “parents who need childcare with stay at home parents who can care for their kids.” Users are first asked questions about parenting styles and schedules, then given potential matches. The service is available in New York and Chicago, reportedly has a waiting list, and just raised millions to keep growing. (Forbes)
