Nike is launching a resale platform, starting with sneakers. Through “Nike Refurbished,” the athletic wear giant will take back pre-owned sneakers from customers and sell them at reduced prices after thoroughly inspecting and grading them for quality. The program is expected to make its debut at 15 store locations around the country by the end of this month, with more rolling out later in the year. While the program is only currently focusing on sneakers, the company is hoping to eventually expand and potentially provide “new opportunities to discover a cross-category lineup of performance and lifestyle product[s].” Nike has been a top brand among Gen Z and Millennials to shop for clothes—and getting into the resale and sustainability business proves that they want to stay favored with that demographic.
