Popeyes is cashing in on the Reddit-GameStop stock phenomenon by giving away “free tendies for all.” To get in on last week’s major meme stock event that led to Reddit traders pumping stocks into GameStop, AMC, Blackberry, and Nokia, Popeyes launched a #Tendies4Yall promotion giving away free 3-piece chicken tenders. “Tendies” is the term retail traders on Reddit use to describe money or financial gain—and also has deep meme roots—and Popeyes is co-opting the internet insider slang, for better or worse. To get their free food, customers can make a $5 minimum purchase via the restaurant’s app or online using the promo codes $GME, $AMC, $BB, or $NOK. (Mashable, Adweek)
