Gen Z is shopping local and with more of a purpose. According to research from 5WPR, Gen Z and Millennials spent nearly $3 trillion last year—with Gen Zs reaching $150 billion. On average, Gen Z spent an additional 43 minutes per day shopping online in 2020 compared to the year before. And local shopping has become more of a focus, pushing toward “reviving communities during the pandemic.” Sixty-five percent of respondents over the age of 16-21-year-olds say they adjusted their shopping behaviors to support local businesses, while 77% agreed that shopping online has allowed them to buy products from new or smaller companies. According to one analyst, there’s been a bigger push for people to shop locally “to feel connected.” (Campaign US)
