Sales of tech gadgets and educational activity books booming as families prep for at-home schooling. We told you that the majority of young consumers are buying supplies for remote learning, and according to NPD, parents are swapping spending on pencils, binders, backpacks, and other traditional supplies for “upgraded technology.” Sales for notebook computers were up 51% last month, monitors saw a 79% increase, keyboards were up 62%, and mice were up 43%. The at-home schooling supply rush has also led to a surge for USB cameras and webcams, which are seeing a 116% spike, while non-gaming PC headsets are up 81%. Of course, tech isn’t the only way kids will be learning at home: activity books saw a 458% increase in sales, and non-fiction books about schools and education increased 117% as parents take on new roles as part-time teachers.
