Meanwhile, children’s shows are addressing racism and sharing their support for Black Lives Matter. In light of the recent events, Sesame Street’s Big Bird is teaming up with CNN to host “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism”—a virtual town hall that will speak to kids about racism, the nationwide protests, embracing diversity, and how to be more empathetic. Other popular characters from kids’ cartoons have shown solidarity too: On Blackout Tuesday, the official Twitter account of Peppa Pig tweeted a black square, while the Garfield EATS account posted a square with a comic of the orange cat’s signature half-closed eyes.
