To reach young viewers, movies in theaters need to be streamable too.

To reach young viewers, movies in theaters need to be streamable too. According to an Ernst & Young study for the National Association of Theatre Owners, the generation growing up on YouTube hasn’t entirely abandoned going to movie theaters. The study found that 13-to-17-year-olds stream about 10.5 hours of content per week, and see 6.8 movies in theaters a year, while 18-to-37-year-olds watch 5.6 movies in theaters yearly, and stream 8.5 hours of content per week. But a movie having a theatrical release “is one of the top ways for content to stand out”: 62% of 13-72-year-olds say they’re more likely to stream a movie that’s appeared in a cinema. (Variety)
