In the race to reach young consumers, Instagram’s ad revenue actually beats YouTube’s. For the first time, YouTube’s ad revenues have been released, with Alphabet reporting $15.1 billion earned in 2019. But news has quickly came out that Instagram actually generated $20 billion last year, 33% higher than YouTube. Both sites are critical for reaching Gen Z and Millennials: YPulse’s data shows that YouTube is teens’ top source for video content with 55% of 13-to-18-year-olds reporting they watch YouTube more than once a day and 47% saying they’re open to seeing advertising on the video sharing platform, while YPulse’s social media monitor shows that both YouTube and Instagram are top social media networks for young consumers.
