Loneliness continues to be a growing mental health issue for young adults.

Loneliness continues to be a growing mental health issue for young adults. According to a YouGov survey, 29% of 21-to-38-year-olds always or often feel lonely, while 27% have no close friends—and YPulse’s Extended Singledom found that 41% of 13-to-37-year-olds are worried they’ll die alone. Meanwhile, a Cigna survey found that young people entering the workforce, particularly 80% of 18-to-22-year-olds, are lonely. A link between social media use and loneliness was also found, with nearly three-fourths of heavy social media users classified as lonely. As one expert says, “Having a thousand friends on Facebook and Twitter does not necessarily help us to feel more connected.” (Psychology Today, WSJ)
