Vine’s successor Byte just launched on mobile—and it could be TikTok’s big competitor. The new app is a long-awaited successor to the once-popular Vine, which was discontinued in 2017 but is much missed by Gen Z users. On Byte, users can post six second videos or pre-existing content (though “Don’t post TikToks here” is already a popular message on the platform.) Currently, follower counts are hidden and user profiles can’t be shared, but the app is reportedly working on a program for influencers to cash in on. In the wake of TikTok’s success, Byte will be one to watch: it is currently the number one free iPhone app in the U.S. App Store. (CNNYahoo! Finance)
